Funded Proposals - The Secret to Making Real Income in MLM

Most people are going about their online marketing all wrong...

And that's why they never make any real income from what they do.
Most network, affiliate and Internet marketers don't know how to really succeed. The basic problem is that they don't know what they don't know.
Yes, I had it all wrong to begin with, too.
I floundered around with talking to my immediate friends and family and wondering why no one really wanted to hear all about the amazing opportunity I'd found. Meanwhile, I kept buying and trying these products, and doing all of their online courses I could. I figured that if I kept searching around the company website, I'd find the answer.
No, I never did. (But I was meanwhile going more and more broke...)
The answer came when I was just about to give up on the whole company. My uplines was out of town and not available. Nothing I was doing in all these months of work was even getting a prospect in front of me, much less someone who wanted just to buy some of this product. So I sat down, dejected, in front of my computer and started surfing - seeing if anyone else had this problem.
Somehow, I stumbled upon Magnetic Sponsoring and that author's free video bootcamp.

The Secret was hidden in plain sight.

Mike Dillard now devotes his energy to helping others achieve real wealth.People are mostly mis-trained about marketing and "making money".
As a herd animal, humankind is trained to always follow, to not stand out. Yet it's the real leaders, the entrepreneurs, who take the risks and attract the following.
Mike Dillard found this out - and became a millionaire before he turned 27.  All the clues were right in front of him, yet he was still poor and struggling - because neither he nor anyone else had put them together into a pattern that made sense.
And when he did, he was able to build his business rapidly and became a name in the marketing world on his own - a "phenomenon".
His turning point what when he simply decided to sit down and just study what worked, instead of continuing to do what everyone else did.

Simply: you make marketing pay for itself.

Money is tight when you're starting, so the best way to start is the funded proposal.People starting out in online marketing, weather it's multi-level-marketing or anything else, can fall into the trap of thinking they have to spend a lot of money - that they don't have - in order to "drive traffic to them". Great sums are spent on advertising in the hopes that the numbers will turn in their favor.
But for the vast majority of people doing this, they never  accomplish anything that  is close to their dreams. Because they are following the wrong example.
Leaders lead. And that's the point. When you narrow down what works and focus on applying only what works - it's then you start making progress.
And people start following you because of your success.
Dillard discovered and perfected the "funded proposal", which is simply a system where interested people are attracted to an opportunity and then lead to their own success by giving them low-cost, high-value educational and training materials that they already want, need, and have been looking for.
And after that discovery, Mike Dillard tested these results and made his millions within his own company. Other people were easily able to duplicate what he did and so built a fast-growing team of people using this system. That team grew and grew - because his system was easily duplicated and taught. But while he could have kept this only to himself and his team, he knew that he had to get it out to the world. So...

...he gave it away as a free series of online videos and an inexpensive book.

Mark Hall studied the funded proposal and came up with his unique backend - you can start today! That's where it all started to turn around for Mark Hall. He had been working around his MLM company for literally a decade. When he came across Dillard's work, he was able to quickly get 4 people sponsored on his own and saw how this fantastic system would work for anyone.
He'd already tried all these solutions being sold online to "get leads" and found that they were too expensive for the average person to get started. Again, they had set the bar too high for someone just starting out. So Hall took his expertise as a web developer and programmer to build a back-end which anyone could afford - so people could learn these basics and apply them, while their incoming prospects funded the simple marketing costs.
So Hall's success again proved Dillard's system could be applied by anyone in anysituation.
And Mark named his backend: "MLM Rock Stars".

You may be asking yourself - so which should I chose?

The answer is "both".
And you can start for nothing but free.
In both cases, Dillard and Hall give away the key principles right off the bat. They tell you immediately what you need to know to succeed - and become outrageously profitable "overnight."
Once you know how to succeed, it's easy to make your fortune online. The rest of it is providing the additional needed tools and training to streamline what you are now doing to quickly build and lead your own team of marketers. Which means you can duplicate Mike Dillard's success and become a millionaire in a few years or less.
It is, of course, up to you. It's your choice.
Click on both of the above ads on the top left(they'll open in new windows or tabs). Sign up with both for their free materials. Study these. Decide if what they offer will help.
It's that simple. The clock is ticking - and you probably won't find this page again.

How I got my own membership started - despite nightmares and angst.

The show-and-tell of a relatively painless process, even though the wild dreams didn't help as I fretted over it...

Building Your Home Business Membership Nightmares: Maybe it was that drink I had before sleeping..

Maybe it was something I drank before bed...

It turned out to be much simpler than I thought. But perhaps not so straightforward as I liked.

The goal was simple - get a page up I could start converting my existing list over to a free membership.

The problem is that you can do so many various things with this plug-in - where to even start isn't obvious.

I actually had to back-track and follow their setup guide. (Duh.)

From their Insta-Member Quick Guide:

A. Configure Insta-Member for the first time.

1. Get into Insta-Member (should be last on the bottom left) and then click on Setup/Configuration:

Insta-member set up and confituration menu - home business membership

2. You'll get to a page which has all the basic configuration options. I've collapsed them so you can see the main areas, plus the additional tabs. You can see that the back end to Insta-member is quite powerful:

3. On the Membership Configuration, select the country currancy you want to use (default is USD, but is lists about 20.)

4. You next want to verify that it's created a Membership Handler page, as a placeholder for registration.

5. Set your membership home page. This I set to the Sample Page which Wordpress creates on install. (I'll certainly change it later - this is really just to get familiar and test the scene.)

B. Payment Integration Setup

Second menu button on the upper right is Payments.

1. While there are two types of payment - direct (PayPal, Payza, 2Checkout, etc.) and 3rd Party payments (Clickbank, JVZoo, DigiResults, WSO Pro, etc.) only direct payments integrate with the internal affiliate program.  Payments via external sites will have to be tracked there.

2. I followed the instructions to set up PayPal - or tried to. PayPal has changed its interface recently, so even the PayPal's online PDF's don't tell you how to find this. Your looking for Instant Payment Notification. (It's at https://www.paypal.com/webapps/customerprofile/summary.view) Once you turn it on, then you copy the address Insta-Member gives you into the IPN settings (click on "Edit settings" button.)

3. On this page is also the Third Party Payments section, which expands to show the 10 major outlets. (Worth investigating whether to enable your product on one, or several, or all of them in order to get maximal distribution and reach for your membership...) For now, we're sticking with PayPal.

Note: Obvious perhaps, but be sure to click the "Update Settings" button before you leave any given page.

Note2: I checked into email settings.  Insta-Members built-in emails use the local server's resources. Their limit is default at 200 per hour. One rabbit-hole I got into at this point was configuring the auto-emails from my Insta-Member plug-in to use Gmail's SMTP server - so I don't use my domain-server for emails, but Gmail instead. It turns out you can only send 99 emails in a 24-hour period. No details of what happens to the emails if you exceed the limit - undoubtedly they'd be rejected, but I don't see what would happen - or if you would even be notified if they didn't go. Checked out Amazon's SES email service and found their initial limit is 200 per day (although this can be raised) -  with all emails held until the 24-hour limit cleared for each item. Underlying suggestion? Keep it as default.

Back on the Integration page, I went ahead and integrated Amazon web services, reCaptcha and Facebook, as these are free with little time to set up. The Amazon S3 service is a way to protect your downloads and are reportedly very low cost. Again, this is not your bandwidth, so would help on the backend and security.

C. Create A Product.

Of course, you can simply set up a test which uses your Sample page that WP set up as part of its installation. But what you see here are the key points which Mike Dillard went over in Video 10. For every product you sell on line, you are going to need:

  • A landing page/sales page.
  • A download page
  • A redirect page for One-Time-Offers (OTO) - or send them to the main page to skip this.

On this page, you can also integrate the product directly with a particular list from your autoresponder. (While I don't know how this works yet, I'm sure it will be coming to me.)

Another point is to be able to register subscribers to your webinars with GoToWebinar - up to 7 different Webinars. So you could actually sell training webinar access with this. Once you ramp up, it might be an affordable part of a launch process - http://www.gotomeeting.com/online/webinar/pricing

Next after this for paid products would be setting up the Affiliate plans, with either or both internal affiliate sales and external through 3rd party hosts. (Free doesn't need this - so to grow this rapidly, it's a good idea to figure out something valuable that affiliates can share for you.)

Drip Content

This was a burning question I had - how to drip content. I found it under the Products -> Protect Contents:

You can protect content under posts, pages, categories, local files, and Amazon S3 files. Which gives you tremendous capability to enable content of all sorts.

Upsells

This is another fascinating one. While PayPal and Payza only allow you a single OTO/cross-sell offers, with other providers you can go into 4 levels, with both up- and down-sell offers. This function can tell you a lot about your pricing while also generating additional revenue. Hit them when they are in a buying mood while their wallet/purse is already open...

Wrap Up

Well, now that our feet are soaking wet, you know know what it takes to get a free membership up and running on your own inexpensive-but-powerful membership site.

Not that bad, eh? And it holds true that you can be up and running in minutes, and open for business on your first day if you already have the content ready. Like books and stuff you've already written.

Key work coming in will be to generate sales pages - at least one.

Which brings up the point of split-tests. This was highly emphasized by Mike Dillard in a couple of the videos. You need to be constantly testing everything.

Unfortunately, I didn't find this to be possible with Insta-Member. However, their earlier product, Insta-Builder does. And you get some great graphics to build your sales/landing pages quickly. It integrates right into Insta-Member on your edit page, so can speed your starting.

At least that was my logic when I bought it for myself.

Yes, it adds a little to my learning curve for this subject. But I think that it will save me time in the long run. The justification for it's low $47 price is that you've already saved that much with your Insta-Member purchase. Most of the other solutions start at $97 and don't have all these features. (In fact, one review I found only recommended one other membership program as useful - and it starts at $197...)

- - - -

This post wraps up the series. You don't need me to tell you any more. Now you have to get to work and build your own.

There's some other details which will show up from time to time (like your ability to send an email directly to members: all, those who have or haven't bought, or affiliates only. Sure, it's not as great as your autoresponder, but perfect for a quick text-only post out of the blue.) And I'm sure there are more easter eggs to find. But that goes beyond this blog purpose, and anything vital that you need to know.

You already have access to all of the Insta-member PDFs (OK, there's the link again) so you can check it all out for yourself. I've got other pans on the stove and have to finish cooking this one.

What's left for me is to collate this into a book so I can tell the world - and give everyone a link to my new free membership. That's the opt-in form on the upper right - go ahead and fill it out, OK? Lots of great valuable stuff like free review copies of books, plus discounts on ereader-ready and printed versions. Not to mention discounts on upcoming launches...

See you up the line.

Strategies for Getting Started with a Money-making Membership

How I rolled my own membership from scratch with a one-time $47 purchase.

As easy as your niece making biscuits at home...
While I'm not going to bore you with how I set up the site with Insta-Member (just watch their video's on how to do this) - it went smoothly and now I'm up and running with a membership.

The next thing is adding content.

Before you get dive in creating pages, you have to plan a little bit.

Planning has to take your abilities and passions into account. You want to stick with this thing, then you need to follow your bliss. Something you could do from here on out.

Mike Dillard was originally fascinated with Network Marketing and created Magnetic Sponsoring to deal with what he learned from studying copywriting.

Once he got this set up with a nice sales funnel and had to get a consultant to help him take it to the next level, he then scratched his own itch about "what to do with all this money instead of blowing it on doo-dads." The result was another multi-million dollar business called Elevation Group. And we came in on this by deciding to find out about his Elevation Income.

The secret to both of these is JV-sponsored membership launches. The core missing material in his training course is about memberships, which is why I'm here fleshing out this whole subject.

We want passive income from a home business, so the first question to answer is this:

What's your bliss, your passion, your early-morning thought process?

When you've got this answered, then you'll see the next step, which is to find out how to plug that into a remunerative membership.

I've been fascinated with self-help books for most of my life. Recently, this has turned to writing them, which in turn went to self-publishing them, and now it's leveraging a publishing house into making some serious passive income.

I know how to publish great books. The trick is to get more than a few dollars each week per book. The other point is that all these book sales are mostly anonymous, meaning I'm not really building a customer base (list) by simply dumping books out there on the markets.

The real leverage is in running a membership where I can both sell books and release them to a willing audience - with discounts, as well as cross-sells, etc. Real leverage for any author. (Of course, I'm going to have to update "Just Publish: Ebook Creation for Indie Authors" with this...)

Building a publishing empire

Logically, any author should be creating a membership to give their audience special access. Their input on characters and plot development would give any fiction author a real and valuable source of new ideas - you'd be writing exactly what your readers want. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Non-fiction authors would build on their earlier success and continue down that line with either subsequent books in that genre-brand, or find and publish additional, related references. Anything which would help their audience improve their lives.

Myself, I've been publishing bestselling classics which are in the public domain. Not too oddly, these are fairly easy to procure and publish - and they have all the basics which the modern authors cover. So marketing them is fairly simple, even though they've been around "forever" they still continue to sell despite competitors having the same book.

But if you're going to build sales into anything other than a few a week, you're going to have to really market them.

Looking to Dillard's success again, we see that the additional knowledge he used was the Product Launch (popularized by Jeff Walker.)

This then means you'd develop packages of books and/or make them into courses so people could study them easier and at their leisure. Meanwhile, paying you for the service of making these available.

Just theoretically, there is no limit to the amount of pages you can create on a Wordpress site. However, it will affect performance. This means we want to optimize a membership for a certain set of books in a given genre. I don't think that 100 books would really slow anything down. (So you could create a membership around Agatha Christie's or A. Conan Doyle's works, for instance.) That would need at least 200 pages on the site, 2 for each book (sales page and product page - thank you page could be the same, although with split-testing you're going to have additional pages, for sure.

Free or Paid?

Ideally, you want recurring income from everyone who joins.

Two factors start up here. First, you need to get some audience in there. And second, you need some content. A free membership will get you off the ground floor quickly. Some of the content you can give away within that membership is PDF review copies of these books.

You put ads and links into those books, so they'll drive traffic to your sites, even when (not if ) they escape to the wild.

PDF's are nice, but most people are still reading physical books. And/or they want it on their smartphone/tablet. So you can then give discount coupons to members so they'll buy these books.

With a free membership, you simply use your auto-responder broadcast to everyone - hey, I've got a new book out!  This is actually the strategy for building an "instant bestseller" on Amazon. Joe Vitale said he used this, and then send additional bonuses to anyone who sent him a copy of their invoice. With a membership, this is completely possible. Since Amazon prefers bestsellers over anything and everything else, they push those books to the top of their "also-bought" lists - and 10x your sales literally overnight.

Meanwhile, you are building up the heavier content, such as training courses, which will keep people going for months.

As your bestseller ebooks then send people to become free members, you can then sell them on the paid concept as well.

Starting with paid content first would have me fretting about attrition and so on. Starting out with free means the attrition is a quiet one, but I can concentrate on the paid content while I catch up with expanding the existing content into the multiple formats needed (total: PDF, ebook - both mobi and epub, paperback, hard-back, and video DVD when I expand into video courses.)

While my republishing public domain books sell well, I need to be able to take the time and move a lot of books out there from machine-produced digital works into professionally-edited ebooks as well as print versions (utilizing Lulu.com for a lot of this, as well as Kobo and Google Play.)

I have 8 different (very full) sets of material all crying out to be made into training courses. The trick has always been financing my efforts and the time it takes to do so. You can see above, it will take considerable time to build all the above. Probably a week for each book, which limits the amount of books I can personally produce in a year. As the money comes in, it will mean that I need to out-source this for sure.

The Final Frontier - JV affiliate launches

Having a membership, and courses to launch, brings the idea of a greater reach when JV affiliates get involved. Insta-member allows me to integrate all the major JV affiliate sales programs into my membership, so this sets up the whole scene.

The strategy is how to build up the site without having to get a lot of content worked up.

You build a house starting with the foundation and then get the framing and walls up. Depending on the strength of the foundation is how many stories you can add.

In any membership, as you systemize the processes, your overhead becomes less. As the real income is built with JV launches, then you can concentrate on doing a large handful of launches each year, which then builds up to your "million-dollar launches."

The reason behind Dillard's success is his list. Having several hundred thousand people in his list from Magnetic Sponsoring enabled his Elevation Group to rocket off. His combined list from these two was reported to be about a million now. That's serious cash with any future launch, or launching other people's products as a JV for them.

There's the strategy discussion.

1. Go Free first. Offer free review copies, and meanwhile push your upsells to these to leverage what you already have. Meanwhile, make them into affiliates so they can tell their friends about your products.
2. Build content into courses so you can sell recurring memberships.
3. Build bundles of materials into launches and attract JV's.
4. Keep systemizing your backend and outsourcing so you can concentrate on JV launches and grow the list.
5. When you want to turn over managing what you have to someone else and start a new membership, you can. (Play follow the leader with Mike Dillard showing you the way.)

How to Build a Successful Membership - Review Notes

It's all a matter of belonging - not just avoiding pain.

photo: Terry Johnson, on Flickr
What Mike Dillard missed on his Evolution Income launch is the belonging point. I could go on for hours on the motivation points he doesn't cover (but I'll save that for the copyrighting course I'm collating.)

People join memberships to belong to something. This is fourth in the set of approval, control, security, and belonging - the glue-points which people stick anything to themselves. (See "Get Your Self Scam Free.")

Sure, it's easy to explain marketing in terms of the simple "Seek Pleasure, Avoid Pain" mantra.

And I'm afraid that I've gotten off on a bit of a tangent already.

I got my Insta-Member membership plug-in downloaded and was busy going through the bonuses, extras, and resources they give. (Real value here...)

One set of videos and an accompanying transcript was particularly enlightening. And my notes (excerpts) from it are below.

The key points:

  • People join memberships to belong.
  • Plan your work, work your plan. ("Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.")
  • Stick to your budget and your current needs. Don't invest in extra's you don't know you need.
  • Always, always give unexpected value - in addition to the promised value.
  • Your niche knows what it wants and how it wants it. Ask and deliver.
  • Track your attrition and solve by more carefully delivering what's needed and wanted.
  • 3 working methods for driving traffic: Ads (online and offline), SEO, JV affiliates. Social networks help, but not as a main line.
  • Plan out your content 6 - 12 months in advance, but just create 2 or 3 months and get started now.

Review Notes of "Membership Site Secrets" from Insta-Member bonuses:

This is probably PLR they found, but it's good stuff. The presentation is both video and text (which I appreciate, since text is faster to digest.) A bit dry (English, sounds like) but you'll see it covers key points you'll need to know to make your membership a success.

(If I were able to get word to Dillard & Co. about how to improve their Elevation Income course, they need a video on just what to expect when running a membership. Because that is what I'm having to fill in here.)

The real advantage of a membership site is that the buyer becomes actively involved in the sales process.

So, the basic principle of a membership site is a buyer joins a site, they become a member, and then you build your relationship with them as sort of an active buyer.

1 – A Very, Very Good Revenue Model

Membership sites are a very, very good revenue model.

The big benefit to you, as the marketer, is that the buyer becomes actively involved in the sales process.

So, not only are you earning your membership fee, your $5000, say, a month, from your 100 members at $50 at month, but if you display login offers as well - and maybe you change it every week or something like that, you put a new on one there - then of course, you can increase your income from that.

So, it's a good autopilot business model and one that you really, really should consider.

Membership sites also appeal to one of humankind's fundamental needs: we like to have a sense of belonging.

But perhaps one of the biggest benefits - and this, I think, is one of the things that a lot of marketers like - is a membership site gives you control over their access to the material.

So, membership sites are a good business model.

And one of the best reasons: affiliates love membership sites with recurring incomes, because it gives your affiliates recurring incomes.

2 – What Membership Script to Use?

One of the first choices you're going to have to make is what membership-site script do you use. There's lots and lots of them on the market, but which one's the best one for you?

Also bear in mind that some membership-site scripts require you to purchase add-ons.

And instead of just buying the bits that they need, they buy all the things that they might need. And of course, that bumps the price right up.

So, before you can pick a membership-site script, you need to understand how you're going to use it.

So, think about what you're going to use right now and in the immediate future.

Can you use it on as many servers as you want, or just on one domain?

Are you planning on displaying login offers and one-time offers to them?

How easy is it to use?

So, how easy is it for you to use?

Do they provide a guarantee period?

What support do you get?

Another influencing factor that again, can influence your choice of budget, is: are lifetime upgrades free or not?

Remember, before you install any upgrades, though, do you actually need it?

Another good question to ask yourself is: how long has this script been around?

One thing you may or may not want is can it drip feed content?

How easy is it for you, not for anyone else, but for you personally to install, setup, administrate, use, add products to, add new members to, etc., etc.

Can you do it yourself, or do you need to outsource it?

This is the other thing as well is can members easily upgrade their membership from between the different levels?

Can the script handle recurring billing?

Does it provide support for a free membership option?

How well does a script protect your content from theft?

Does it protect your content from sharing?

Does it plug in to other scripts you plan to use?

Perhaps one of the most important is, will it work with your web host.

3 – Membership script examples

Different scripts that you know, you may want to say, well yes that is for me, that is not for me. So, we are going to look at that now, but write out what you want from your script. Answer all the questions we have asked here, write it all out, and then look through the different scripts, and decide which one is the best one for you.

4 – Picking a Niche

Picking a niche is actually very, very important.

Ultimately the success of your membership site relies on you being able to give your members what they want.

So, always give them plenty of value.

But, what you're after is providing the solution to the problem.

And remember, you can just use a membership site as a delivery mechanism for your product.

Don't get caught up in the fact that a membership site has to be, you know, recurring monthly products and information.

Could it become like a training course?

But sometimes, when you're picking the niche and deciding how it will work as a membership site, sometimes you need to step outside your box and have a think.

But, once you've picked your niche, your next step is to determine what format membership site you're going to create.

Whatever format you choose, it has to be suitable for your niche.

That sort of thing, a fixed time membership tends to be a bit more intense if you do it once a week because you're keeping more in contact with your members, you're more interactive with them then, and you're constantly reminding them that you're there.

You either bill a weekly, monthly for that fixed period of time.

Now obviously they're paying in advance, so you bill them now.

Now, the next option is monthly payment.

Or the final option is product delivery or training sites: how to look after your hamster, how to restore your classic Mustang whatever it might be, things like that, how to train your horse.

So, it's worth spending the time in the planning stage.

5 – Content

One of the things that destroys many membership sites before they have a chance to get off the ground is the content.

You need to be able to provide something that means they have to be a member.

I would also recommend providing regular updates.

Always deliver your updates on time.

So, you need to make sure that you give a MASSIVE value in that first month.

But it's very, very important to listen to the feedback from your members.

Now, when it comes to providing content, you can either write it yourself.

You could hire or interview experts.

Alternatively, you can hire freelancers.

One of the best forms of content is what we call user-generated content.

The other alternative, and this is my preferred option, is rewritten private-label-rights material.

Now, the format you use, whether it's going to be audio or books or video, is up to you.

It depends upon your niche, depends upon your skills, your budget, your equipment, and so on. But, you've got to make sure you provide high-value content. It's got to be ideally unique for you, it's got to be good quality, and it's got to be something that people go, "Wow, this is so worthwhile!" You don't want it to be anything where they're looking at it and going, "Yeah, whatever," because that means unsubscribed. So, make sure it's good quality. And this gives you some hints and tips on where to find the content.

6 – Solving Attrition

Every single membership site will suffer from attrition.

Now, typically, average membership lifetimes, they vary. It could be anything from a few months. Sometimes it's three to six months, in most membership sites.

So, what you need to do is monitor your unsubscribe rate.

If you find your unsubscribe rate is too high, then you may well have a problem with your content.

If you have high-value, exclusive information, then your members are going to stay members for longer.

What you will find - and this is typical for all membership sites - is the majority of people will leave in the first month.

It means, for you, the people that stay are quality buyers.

One of my favorite tricks with a membership site is to offer random bonuses and random bits of information.

If you know what your market wants and delivers it, then it's going to help you to retain your members.

You also want to be sure that your members are clear on what they are getting.

Ensure that your content is always delivered on time, every time.

If you ensure that quality's always very high, then that also is going to help retain members.

If you can encourage feedback and interaction with your members, that also is going to help you to retain members to your site.

This sense of community is vital for people.

7 – Common Mistakes

Now, the first mistake that many people make is bad marketing.

If you can rank well and you can market your site well then, obviously, you're going to do well as a membership site.

You also need to understand where does your traffic come from?

If you're information's out of date or boring, then that's a big, big mistake.

A lot of people, as well, don't plan their membership sites in advance.

If you're active in gathering testimonies as well, that's going to help.

You have to make sure that your membership site makes it really, really obvious where to find the information that they've paid for.

Also, is the content you're adding, content that your niche wants?

If you have free members, market to them and sell them the full membership.

Also, make sure you communicate with your members regularly.

Always, as well, make sure you get feedback from your members.

And another big mistake that people make, and this is, again, a common one and it can bring down a membership site, is not delivering the content on time.

8 – How to Advance and Succeed

Now, obviously, one of the first ones is to make sure that you've planned your content in advance.

Now, ideally have your content created in advance.

What I tend to do with a membership site is I create a month or two of content, test the membership site to see how it's working. If it works well, I create pretty much the rest of the content and then it's all there and it's all being delivered over time. And that works very, very well. But, you have to think about that.

But, with any membership site, you always have to work to get new members.

If you provide unexpected bonuses and additional content, pretty much randomly, it's going to increase the value of your site to your buyers.

You do need to understand what your target market wants.

Always provide them with the most up to date information you possibly can.

Encourage your members to contribute to your site as well.

You also need to keep an eye on your niche as well for competition.

Keep an eye on the market as well and see what the new techniques are, new developments, and so on and so forth.

This is a mistake that lots of people make. They don't step outside of their box.

Always make sure that you think about what your members want and think laterally, if you like.

The watchword, I believe, with a membership site is, "Add value."

9 – Driving Traffic

In order for you to really succeed with a membership site, you have to continually drive traffic to it.

Unless you happen to have a big waiting list for your membership site or you have a big mailing list, then traffic really is the answer for how to replace these members.

You need to also optimize your site for the search engines.

If you choose to participate in niche related forums and groups, that is going to help you to get traffic, it is going to help build your reputation.

You can also choose to advertise in newsletters and ezines.

The other option, and again this is going to cost you some money, but it is a very good option, that very few marketers actually do but one that is very effective, is to advertise offline in relevant publications.

You want to look for joint ventures as well.

You can also create social networking groups related to your niche.

Now there is a lot of things you can do to get traffic, but I really, really recommend that you make sure you rank well for your keywords because it is going to help you to maximize your revenue and your profitability, and ultimately that is what you are after.

10 – Opportunities For You

At the end of the day, a membership site is a really, really good business model, there is a lot of potential for profit in them, a lot of opportunities for you.

So, a stable source of income can make a big difference between Internet marketing being something you do a little bit of and you hope it pays the bills, to something that replaces your full-time income.

So, what you need to be able to do, is to help people really get that sense of belonging, and that is the whole point of your membership site.

Firstly, pick a niche.

Then determine which script you want to use.

Plan out six to twelve months worth of content.

You do not have to create it all, just create the first couple, but plan out the first six to twelve months, because you can use that in your marketing material, so that people know what to expect. Then set up a site, buy your script, install it, configure it, create your content, add the content to the site, start marketing it, and getting members.

As members join, recruit them as affiliates, get them to market your product.

And then basically, keep marketing it, getting it ranking well, get traffic to it, get involved in forums and groups, and this and that and the other, and get traffic to it so you get more and more members.

So, take this step-by-step action plan, take the information you now have, go and create a membership site and enjoy the many, many benefits that it will give you.
